Below we will go over a quick explanation of betting against the spread to refresh your memory.

A Spread Betting Line would look something like this:

North Carolina Tar Heels +5
vs Kansas Jayhawks -5

The 5 is the set spread that oddsmakers came up with for the game. Because Kansas has the negative (-) sign in front of the spread that means they are the favored team, and as North Carolina has the positive (+) sign they are the underdogs. Therefore Kansas is favored to win the game by 5 points.

If you were to place a bet on Kansas against the spread you would need them to "cover the 5 point spread" (win by 6 points or more) in order to win your bet.

If you were to place a bet on North Carolina against the spread you would need them to "beat the 5 point spread" (lose by 4 or less or just win the game) in order to win your bet.
