March Madness Sweet 16 Statistics and Trends:
History has shown that by the Sweet 16 there is usually one highly ranked seed knocked out of the March Madness Tournament. Last year (2009) marked the first time in tournament history where all of the 12 #1,2 and 3 seeds advanced to the Sweet 16 round.
The lowest seed to reach the Sweet 16 regional semifinals was a #14 seed, and has been twice. Once by Cleveland State in 1986 and the second was Chattanooga in 1997. Neither of those teams won their Sweet 16 game.
In 2009 there weren't any cinderella teams, all four number one seeded teams advanced from the Sweet 16 round into the Elite Eight, and only two #2 seeded teams and two #3 seeded teams moved on.
