Kansas March Madness Predictions

Article Updated March 14th, 2010

Coming into any NCAA March Madness Tournament, there are the usual and unusual favorites each year. Becoming more and more like a usual favorite are the Kansas Jayhawks. The Jayhawks won the Big 12 conference tournament on Saturday with a 72-64 victory over a strong Kansas State team. Kansas is ranked #1 by both the Associated Press and the Coaches poll as well. With a 32-2 overall record, and a 15-1 in-conference record, the Jayhawks are easily one of the favorites to win the big tournament. Led by Guards Sherron Collins and Xavier Henry, as well as Forward Marcus Morries, the Jayhawks won their first 14 games of the year, before losing there first game at Tennessee on January the 10th. Kansas has done nothing but win all season, and are definetly hoping for another National Championship in 2010.

Kansas Jayhawks Tournament Prediction

The Jayhawks have played extremely well in their tournament history. In 38 tournament appearances, Kansas has reached 13 final fours and have an overall tournament record of 84-37. The Jayhawks won the tournament in 2008, beating Memphis in the final game. I look for Kansas to make a Final Four appearance for sure, and look for Kansas to possibly win their 4th NCAA Tournament Championship.

Team Offense - The Jayhawks offense averages 83.6 points per game this season, and even scored 112 points in a win earlier this year vs Tenn. Tech. Leading the way on offense for the Jayhawks is Guard Sherron Collins, who drops almost 16 points per game, while Center Cole Aldrich and Forward Marcus Morris combined to average 16 rebounds and 24 points per game. Other than the 57 points they scored in a two-point win over Memphis in November, the lowest point total on offense this year was 68, in their only loss at Tennessee. Look for the Jawhawks to be one of the highest scoring team in the NCAA Tournament.

Team Defense - The Kansas defense gives up an average of 62.9 points per game, and have not given up more than 75 points in a single game all season long. Like most transition teams, the Jayhawks have the ability to turn the bull over on defense, as Xavier Henry leads the team with 42 steals on the season. The Jayhawk defense has played well in big games, and will rely on Cole Aldrich's ability to grab rebound at both ends of the floor.
