Wisconsin March Madness Predictions
Article Updated March 14th, 2010
After failing to make it past the second round in last year’s tournament, the Badgers are a much more complete team and will look to make a deep run into this year’s NCAA tournament. Wisconsin had been playing well as of late, but were beat by the lower seeded Illinois team in their first game of the Big Ten tournament. Finishing off the season with a 23-8 overall record, Wisconsin is hoping to be named a #3 seed for the March Madness tournament.
Wisconsin Badgers Tournament Prediction
The Wisconsin Badgers have appeared in 15 NCAA Tournament games and hold a tournament record of 20-14. The Badgers have only made two Final Four appearances, the most recent was in 2000 where they made it to the National Semi Finals as an underdog 8 seed. In past years Wisconsin has had a tough time getting past the first two rounds, but I think this year with their tough defense and their ability to not turn the ball over, Wisconsin will make their way into the Sweet Sixteen. Anything further then the Sweet Sixteen with the Badgers would surprise me.

Team Offense – With the absence of Jon Leuer other players have stepped up on offense for the Badgers. Sophomore point guard Jordan Taylor has averaged 11.0 points and 4.3 assists per game since joining the starting line-up in January. Another big factor on offense for the Badgers is Senior Jason Bohannon who has averaged 19.5 points per game while shooting 60.3 percent from the field and 52.2 percent from 3-point range over his last six games. If Leuer can return to pre-injury form and Bohannon can continue with his hot shooting, the Badgers offense will take this team deep in the NCAA Tournament.
Team Defense – The Badgers defense has been the story of their success this year. Wisconsin has the top scoring defense in the Big Ten conference and is ranked fifth in the Nation, allowing only 57.1 points per game. A big factor for the success of the Badgers defense is their ability to block shots without fouling, their 16.4 personal fouls per game is good for 39th in the Nation. The return of Leuer, who averages 5.8 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game, should stiffen up this defense and increase their chances of upsetting some teams in the 2010 March Madness NCAA Tournament.
